2011 MDRC Travel awards

This year again the MDRC is proud to offer 6 student travel awards of $700 each, for MSc, PhD students as well as post-doc. The awards have to be used to cover registration fees and travel expenses for MDRC students that will give an oral or poster presentation in a scientific meeting.

2011 Faculté de Médecine de l'Université de Montréal/MDRC Studentship

MDRC is proud to offer new studentships for MSc or PhD students. In recognition of our recent success at the last Canada Foundation for Innovation competition, the Faculté de Médecine de l'Université de Montréal generously give us $40,000 in funding for Msc and PhD students. Thanks to this support, 4 studentships of $10,000 has been awarded this year.

Here are the 4 recipients of the 2011 Faculté de Médecine de l'Université de Montréal/MDRC Studentships:

Marc Prentki is the EASD's 2011 Albert Renold Prize recipient

MDRC Director Marc Prentki has been awarded the 2011 Albert Renold Prize by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) for "outstanding achievements in research on the islets of Langerhans".

As part of the prize Dr Prentki is invited to give the Albert Renold Lecture at the next EASD annual meeting which will be held 12-16 September in Lisbon, Portugal. The title of his talk will be: "Tricycling along the β-cell and its coupling mechanisms for fuel induced insulin secretion".

 



An exceptional year of CDA funding for MDRC members

Out of the 24 projects funded by the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) across Canada this year, 8 were granted to MDRC members!

 



Pedro Geraldes receives the Scholar Award of the CDA

Pedro Geraldes received the prestigious "Scholar Award" attributed by the CDA to newly independent investigators establishing diabetes-related research in a Canadian university.

 



Mourad Ferdaoussi receives a "Bourse Grand Labo CRCHUM" for post-doctoral training

Mourad, a post-doc in Vincent Poitout laboratory, received last May 15 one of the 3 fellowships of 15,000$ awarded by the CRCHUM in his "Bourses Grand Labo" competition.

Three MDRC students are awarded at the 3rd annual COLosSUS meeting

COLosSUS is a group of scientists interested in imaging in medical research. The 3rd annual meeting of the group was held 17 and 18 February 2011. Three MDRC students received awards for their presentation:

  • Émilie Pepin, PhD student, Prentki lab (poster)
  • Meriem Semache, PhD student, Poitout lab (poster)

MDRC students are awarded at the "Congrès des étudiants du CHUM"

December 16th, 2010 was the 13th CHUM Research Center "Congrès annuel des étudiants". Many MDRC students attended the meeting and presented their work orally or at the poster session. Awards were attributed for best presentations and 3 MDRC speakers were awarded for best poster presentation in their categorie:

2012 MDRC annual retreat

January 27, 2012 is the date for the next MDRC annual retreat. Dr Steven McKnight from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is the invited speaker for the "2012 AstraZeneca-BMS J Denis McGarry Lecture". Please MDRC members save the date.
